10 Acts of Kindness Post and During Coronavirus
If there is one common thread among idealists, it’s our deep desire to help and support others, be they family members, members of our community, our fellow humans across the globe. We understand that for most (if not all) of us, the novel coronavirus feels uncertain and scary. But in spite of those feelings, many of us have still been moved to ask, “How can I help?”
Today, we offer you a variety of suggestions for ways to support others. After all, socially distanced as we may be, we’re all in this together.
10 Acts of Kindness Post and During Coronavirus

- Check on your neighbors
- Help those in need
- Food drives
- Donate money
- Quarantine centers
- Educate people
- Taking care of the children
- Take care of yourself!
1. Check Up on Your Relatives
Everyone must practice social distancing in order to prevent a tidal wave of cases. But call regularly to check up on your elderly relatives to make sure they are okay and taking safety precautions against the virus. Ask if they need any sort of assistance e.g grocery shopping, mask or gloves. It’s all about taking care of each other and if you can go out to visit them at a distance then take that step to see if they are doing well.
2. Helping Your Colleagues
Many of our colleagues may travel via public transport and it increases the risk if they travel to work like this. What you can do is, offer them pick and drop service one person at a time so that you are not exposed as well.
3. Check on Your Neighbors
Call or text your neighbors (especially elderly neighbors) to make sure they’re doing okay. Ask if there is anything that they need (be it a box of tissues or a cup of sugar). If you have what they’re looking for, offer to leave it outside their front door so that they can pick it up without coming in direct contact with you. It sounds extreme, but this is actually a great (and safe) way to make sure that your more vulnerable neighbors have what they need.
Today, the whole world is put to the test. Everyone, with no exception, is dealing with the same difficult circumstances. Stay positive this too shall pass. If you feel comfortable going out, consider knocking on the door of any elderly neighbors and chatting through the screen or storm door just to offer a bit of comfort and reassurance.
4. Help those in Need
In most of our hometown we have small slum areas where we get to see homeless people living miserable lives. It’s time to give back to the community by showing a small act of kindness. What we can do is, buy rations in good amount and donate it to the people who can’t afford a proper meal of the day. Another easy way to do this is, we have maid/drivers working at our place so why not give it to them and to their family. These people earn on daily wages as everything is shut down. It’s hard for them to feed their families. Be a reason to put a smile on their faces.
5. Food Drives
Coronavirus has affected every single country, cities and classes. It doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor the virus is not leaving unless we take precautions. Unfortunately, the people who are most affected are the ones who earn on daily wages. By arranging a food drive once per week will help provide food for the needy and their families. You can distribute the food by yourselves with safety measures by wearing gloves and a mask. In the same way you can give them sanitizers and educate them what’s the purpose of it and how to use it.
6. Donate Money
There are plenty of corona relief organizations which are taking donations to help out frontline workers. What we can do is, we can donate a small amount of money to their organization or help them raise funds for a good cause. It will indirectly help people suffering from the virus.
7. Quarantine Centers
Many of us have plots or farm houses which can be used as Quarantine centers for the people suffering from CoronaVirus. Why not volunteer to use that space or if not you can donate beds to the center and other supplies. There are limited beds and centers in Pakistan so as citizens we should step up to help them.
Get to know how to keep your spaces disinfected from coronavirus.
8. Educate People
In a meanwhile you are at your home it’s good to educate people about the risk of the coronavirus online. Write about it on social media, an article or even a small seminar online where people should know how to protect themselves.
9. Taking Care of the Children
Children are sensitive and can be exposed to the virus if they are allowed to play outside. In these situations we must educate them on how to protect themselves and provide them with activities at home so that they are not bored to go outside. Make them watch educational shows, board games or exercise in the lawn so that they are busy at home.
10. Take Care of Yourself!
As they say, secure your own oxygen mask before assisting others. In other words, self-care is incredibly important at a time like this, and ensuring that you’re making safe and smart choices is a civic duty of the utmost importance. So for some, doing your part will simply mean taking care of yourself. And that’s okay!
In times like these we as Pakistani citizens should join hand in hand to save Pakistan from Coronavirus by taking safety measures like being at home, washing hands and wearing a mask while going outside. It’s a tough situation but this time will pass too.
